Art Drives – Genesis GV80 Art Car
Business & Arts NL is thrilled to announce Art Drives, the Genesis QV80 Art Car designed by Vanessa Iddon. This mobile public art piece was commissioned by Business & Arts NL and Genesis St. John’s to celebrate the release of the Explore Art NL app, the first of its kind in the province.
Artists and their work are vitally important to enriching our cultures and economies. Art weaves through all types of industries and informs everything in our society. It supports. It empowers. It uplifts. It critiques. It drives (in this case, literally).
I’m hugely thankful for this opportunity through BANL and Genesis St. John’s. It’s these collaborations that make our community stronger and I hope we’ll see more patronage in the future. I’ve seen the Art Car around town a few times already and it’s made me so happy. I hope it makes other people happy too.

Artist Statement:
In this digital illustration, a gardenscape is filled with surrealist flora that comes alive and observes the world around them. The sun, heart, and worm overlap the botanicals and luminate them with their vibrancy. This is a whimsical illustration that captures the absurdity of my work, as I love to play with visuals and concepts that are used in an unconventional and humorous way.
Vanessa Iddon is an illustrator and designer at Perfect Day in St. John’s, NL. With a BA in Art History and Graphic Design diploma, she has worked professionally as a designer for seven years. As an active member of the arts community, she has contributed her work and efforts to Newfoundland Quarterly, St. Michael’s Printshop as a board member, and Access YYT. She recently completed a personal project where she produced and shared a piece of art online every day for 1,460 days @vanessa_iddon. She strives to think outside of the box conceptually and employs the visually unexpected. She creates with a focus on highlighting inclusive representation and amplifying the female voice. Her professional work includes a large range of styles, and designs all things print or digital.
