Joining a board is a great way for someone who isn’t a professional artist to bring their skills to help build an arts organization. And it’s a win-win. While the organization benefits from the experiences and skills you’ve honed in your own career, helping to oversee and support a nonprofit organization also provides experience and expertise that will contribute to your own professional growth.
Join us for Team Up With the Arts this fall to gain a better understanding of how boards work and what roles you might fill, learn about the arts ecosystem in our province, and have the opportunity to be matched to an arts board.
Participants will:
Attend four sessions over four months, including:
The Economic Impact of the Arts in NL – Life in the nonprofit sector, funding structures for the arts, and current realities of the creative sector in 2022. (Sept 22, 2023)
Governance in Nonprofit Arts Organizations – Why it’s important, what it looks like, and what impact it can have. We’ll also touch on some hot topics and emerging trends in nonprofit governance. (Oct 13, 2023)
Your Team – What does a board do? What are the roles and responsibilities of board members and staff? What to do if asked to join a board? (Nov 3, 2023)
Risk and Reward – How to protect yourselves, as individuals and as an organization, from risk; tax and insurance considerations for nonprofits; making tricky decisions. This session will also feature a case study workshop. (Dec 1, 2023)
