Your board has the potential to be one of your organization’s biggest assets.
Business and Arts NL wants to help connect nonprofit arts boards with the skills they need, and people from the community with fulfilling volunteer roles that draw on their unique skills.
Are you interested in learning more about how a great board can work?
Join us for a workshop designed to inspire conversations around how our boards can optimally support our organizations, be a source of insight and connection, and help us reach deep into the community.
Who should participate?
This workshop is open to everyone, including:
- Staff and board members of nonprofit organizations.
- Professionals curious to learn more about sitting on a board.
- Community members interested in a glimpse into some of the strategic issues that arts organizations grapple with.
In partnership with the Institute of Corporate Directors NL Chapter, we’re presenting Directors’ Dilemma: Atlantic Canada Players.
Join us for this interactive event as we discuss the challenges facing a new and growing Atlantic Canadian theatre company as they build their audience, find a permanent home, and then are faced with a crisis brought on by the pandemic.
Participants will have the opportunity to exercise their director skills as they deal with complex governance problems facing our theatre company. Acting as a board and presented with a set of facts in a case study, you and your fellow board members will deliberate and make recommendations for a course of action. The discussions will be guided by a moderator who will take participants through the peer-to-peer discussions. The moderator will be supported by an experienced director, who will provide additional insights and perspectives on the issues raised in the case study and, more generally, on the board’s role.

This session is presented as a joint offering of the ICD NL Chapter and Business & Arts NL.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter connects diverse membership from NFP, Public and Private Companies (including family-run) as well as Crown (ABCs) Corporations. We draw on the strength of this unique combination of members to enrich the programs and events of the Chapter, through panel discussions, breakfast and luncheon sessions and socials. Apart from the opportunity to learn from experienced governance trustees and CEOs, the networking opportunities are very rewarding. The main focus of our Chapter is to further develop the level of expertise and governance knowledge around the Board table. Based on outreach to members and non-members we’ve received positive feedback on the Chapter’s mandate and activities.
Cancellation Policy:
Business & Arts NL reserves the right to cancel or reschedule this workshop if necessary.
