Are you an artist or creative entrepreneur who’d like to learn more about intellectual property (IP) rights (with respect to your own creations and the creations of others), pros and cons, and opportunities and challenges? Join Michael Shortt of the law firm Fasken and André Gallant of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for this enlightening session. Everyone is welcome!
During this workshop, we’ll focus on different copyright rules, with practical applications, examples and resources. Copyright applies to all original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works and covers a range of creations (which could include the original computer coding used to create new computer programs). We’ll also take a look at two other IP rights: trademarks (which include the name of your company or organization, the name of a product or service, logos, slogans and more) and industrial designs (the visual features of shape, configuration, pattern or ornament, or any combination of these, applied to a finished article of manufacture). Join us online to learn more!
Presenters’ Bios:
André Gallant is Atlantic Canada’s Intellectual Property (IP) Advisor with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). In addition to working in IP law, André has also worked as a tax lawyer for more than 10 years. He is also a published author, frequent speaker and an amateur piano composer.
