Spotlight on Workshop Series: GST/HST For Artists & Creative Entrepreneurs

As we welcome in a new year, we’re also excited to start the next round of our Business Workshops for Artists. And this year, we’re pleased to offer a very special series which we hope will make preparing your taxes a lot easier.

This in-depth, 5-part series (offered online for free) is designed in a building-block fashion, with each subsequent session building upon the one before it.

It all kicks off on January 17 with Introduction to GST/HST, For-Profit Sectors. If you’re operating on a for-profit basis as a sole proprietor (perhaps as an artist, musician or craftsperson), or as a partner or owner of an incorporated business, and want to know if you’re “doing things right” regarding your taxes, this session will give you the information you need and lay the foundation for more detailed learning to come. Register to learn about the obligation to charge and collect tax, which revenues are applicable, potential risks and mistakes, and much more.

We’ll be rolling out the other workshops in this series throughout the year, which will include:

  • Taxable Vs. Exempt Supplies Deep Dive (March 20)

  • Place of Supply & Correct Rates of Tax (May 8 )

  • Input Tax Credits (ITCS) Deep Dive (September 18)

  • GST/HST Audits & Examinations (November 20)

All of these sessions will be facilitated by Michael Monk, who’s worked with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for over 30 years (working extensively with GST/HST during this time). This is your chance to have all your burning tax questions answered and hear straight from the source with information that is up-to-date, relevant and reliable.

Please note: We highly recommend participants attend all five sessions to get the most out of this series (learn more about the workshop series GST/HST For Artists and Creative Entrepreneurs).

Whether you’re a business owner or responsible for an arts organization’s record-keeping and tax filings, this series will equip you with the information you need to prepare your taxes with confidence and ease. Even if you’re not collecting HST at the moment, you’ll learn about the criteria and when you might need to start so that you can be prepared ahead of time.

Register today and join us. Everyone is welcome!

Register for Introduction to GST/HST, For-Profit Sectors on January 31 from 1-2 pm.
