Last year in our Spotlight on Partnerships blog, we shared 47 inspiring stories featuring partnerships between businesses, municipalities, nonprofit organizations and artists across the province. Here are our top Spotlights for 2023.

At Business & Arts NL, we're fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers as part of our Business Volunteers for the Arts, Business Workshops for Artists, and Team Up With the Arts programs. During National Volunteer Week, we salute them.

It's been a busy and inspiring year here at Business & Arts NL as we launched some exciting new programs, celebrated ongoing ones and welcomed a number of new members, followers and staff. We're proud to present it all in our latest Annual Report

Through its Mainframe initiative, Eastern Edge Gallery, an artist-run centre in downtown St. John's, is expanding ideas of how visual arts are perceived and created, while introducing creators to new tools and technologies to incorporate into their own practices.

A colourful new art installation at Memorial University's St. John's campus, developed by Cree student and artist Holly Star Tait and completed with the help of the university community, is bringing a pop of colour to the campus, while increasing a sense of belonging for Indigenous students, staff and faculty.

Nothing goes together like music and friends. And thanks to a new partnership between the Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival and Fort Amherst Healthcare, seniors living in St. John's are getting a healthy heaping of both. 

Newfoundland and Labrador is a treasure trove of literary talent. The Fresh Fish Award for Emerging Writers, administered by WritersNL and sponsored by NLCU, has been helping support and amplify local literary talent, providing a solid base from which to launch their careers.

In this week’s Spotlight, we speak with Bettina Ford of the Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador, who will be leading our free, online panel discussion “Grow Your Impact with Volunteers” on March 6. The panel will feature Bethany MacKenzie of Union House Arts, Julie Vogt of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society, and Stephanie Janes of the CSC NL.

Public art is a great equalizer. The folks at the Bonavista Biennale know this well. This week, we’re highlighting the mural “Provider” at Port Rexton Brewing, created by brothers Chris and Greg Mitchell of Born In The North studio.
