GV80 Art Car

Art Moves

The 2021 Genesis GV80 Art Car was created by Vanessa Iddon. This was the first Art Car commissioned by Business & Arts NL and Capital Auto Group. This project created a movable piece of public art to promote the launch of the Explore Art NL public art app and showcase Genesis St. John's commitment to supporting local arts.

Our Role

Business & Arts NL and Capital Auto Group have collaborated on Art Cars in 2021, 2023 and 2025.

Our role includes:

  • Crafting a Call for Submissions and circulating it throughout the arts community in NL

  • Answering applicant questions about the opportunity

  • Collecting and presenting submissions to the client

  • Consulting on the selection process

  • Helping draft the selected artist’s contract

  • Acting as a liaison between the artist and client, ensuring a smooth process that adheres to timelines

  • Collaborating on the unveiling event and communications rollout

The result? The Genesis GV80 Art Car successfully promoted the Explore Art NL app launch while creating engaging public art that sparked conversation throughout St. John's. The project generated positive community feedback and established the foundation for future Art Car collaborations.

About the Artist

Vanessa Iddon is a multi-disciplinary artist, illustrator and designer living in St. John’s, NL. Born in Ontario, she graduated with a BA in Art History from Queen’s University in 2011 and a diploma in Graphic Design from CNA in 2014. She has worked professionally as a graphic designer at Newfoundland and Labrador studio Perfect Day for ten years. Her current creative practice focuses on whimsical, absurd representations of self through flora.

In this digital illustration, a gardenscape is filled with surrealist flora that come alive and observe the world around them. The sun, heart, and worm overlap the botanicals and luminate them with their vibrancy. This is a whimsical illustration that captures the absurdity of my work, as I love to play with visuals and concepts that are used in an unconventional and humorous way.
