Spotlight on Diamond Design & the “Concerts at the Terrace” Series

Last May, members of the Opera on the Avalon opera “Ours” performed for the public at Diamond Design, Terrace on the Square.

Music has a way of bringing people together, of spreading joy and hope through all of life’s highs and lows. Thankfully, no matter the time of year, music abounds in the City of St. John’s.

As the months grow warmer, a symphony of sounds enliven and animate the atmosphere - whether it be buskers in the downtown core, or musicians performing in any number of outdoor concerts and festivals.

Music also adds that special touch to receptions, conferences and other events and for businesses, it can be a great way to give back to clients and customers.

As a proud supporter of arts and cultural groups in the province for over 25 years, Diamond Design at Terrace on the Square (Churchill Square) has shared the beauty and power of music through a range of events. Their tradition of sponsoring complimentary public concerts by various music groups continues this weekend with their “Concerts at the Terrace” series.

Through this series, Diamond Design has played host to an array of artists, including performances by the Atlantic String Quartet of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, classical guitarist Boyd Chubbs, singer-songwriter Brianna Gosse and the Tuckamore Festival.

On Saturday, June 3 at 1pm, the music plays on as Opera on the Avalon (recent winners of the ArtsNL BMO Artist of the Year Award) takes centre stage to delight customers and the general public with selections from their diverse repertoire.

“Opera on the Avalon will be back outside our showroom to present a one-hour concert of classical favourites that’s sure to be a hit for all,” says Pat Thompson, owner of Diamond Design.

The arts, says Thompson, help foster creativity and beauty and make for a vibrant community. Supporting the arts, he adds, produces winners all around.

Classical guitarist Boyd Chubbs performed at Diamond Design earlier this month.

“The more events we host it becomes clear why this is such a great idea – for everyone! Showcasing local music performers has created wonderful client response and discussion surrounding the benefits of supporting the arts and in turn, the entire community. Attendance at these concerts continues to grow and we are delighted to play a role in making a variety of art and culture accessible to the general public,” Thomspon says.

"These partnerships are a great benefit to both Diamond Design and the artists. The exposure for them is priceless and demonstrates that cooperative support and giving back is simply good business."

For those businesses that may be considering hosting similar events, Thompson offers some simple advice.

“Our recommendation – have fun with it! We certainly do!”
