Spotlight on MINI St. John’s & Artist Jud Haynes

A great piece of visual art not only helps to brighten up and enliven a space, it can also help ground you in a place by sharing some of the things that make it so special. From puffins and icebergs to St. John’s jellybean houses and breathtaking coastal scenery, Jud Haynes' new mural at the MINI St. John’s showroom checks all the boxes.
A renowned graphic designer, illustrator and screen print artist who has created work for the likes of Alan Doyle, Blue Rodeo, Arkells and countless other musicians, events and businesses, Haynes is no stranger to the local creative community. His work also accompanies the #ComePlayWithMeNL public piano at Memorial University’s Signal Hill Campus, and he is also the designer behind Business & Arts NL’s revamped logo and branding.
The new, 30-foot mural (Hynes’ biggest piece to date) was unveiled last week. According to Capital Auto Group, it encompasses elements that celebrate the places, people and history of MINI in Newfoundland and Labrador.
“I wanted to represent the cars’ impeccable style, function, practicality, heritage, and bold ability to be different from other cars. Now with a line of 100 per cent electric models, their focus on the environment, exhilarating driver experience, and keen sense of design make me feel a strong connection between them and this province,” Haynes says.
"Being trusted to create a piece of art to adorn the MINI St. John’s walls has been an exciting honour.”
Capital Auto Group says they were familiar with Haynes work and being a supporter of uniting the business and arts communities, the partnership made perfect sense.
