Artists’ Legal Self-Defense 101

From take-it-or-leave-it deals to now the rampant use of AI, you might be wondering what is an artist to do? This is an interactive workshop on proactive measures and self-defense relating to the typical legal matters and dynamics that artists can expect to encounter. The workshop will also highlight legal tools and cheat sheets for artists that have been specially developed for Business & Arts NL members.

This workshop is the first in a series of three, a collaboration with initio Technology and Innovation Law Clinic at Dalhousie University, supported by the Law Foundation of NL. This series will also include:

The workshop series will be presented by initio Technology and Innovation Law Clinic Director, Alayna Kolodziechuk (they/them) and members of the clinic team. Alayna has more than ten years' experience as a lawyer working with artists in a range of industries to support their legal needs. Alayna also draws on their experience as a member of the board of directors for several notable arts organizations and was the prior Vice-Chair of the Artists Legal Information Society.
