AMBER-LYNN THORNE & DANIEL RUMBOLT

visual artists, educators, and advocates

(Net)working

(Net)working invites participants to become artistic collaborators in this community-focused art project. Amber-Lynn Thorne will guide participants in painting their own unique ceramic capelin that she has prepared, capturing the brilliance and natural colours found in the waters of Newfoundland. The capelin will then be attached to a fishing net made of island wool, hand-woven by Daniel Rumbolt using traditional methods. This work will continually evolve throughout the day - with more fish being painted, and the net growing to accommodate the space.

Amber-Lynn Thorne and Daniel Rumbolt are both multidisciplinary artists from rural Newfoundland. They met while completing their BFA (Visual Art) from Memorial University of NL, and have since found their art practices intertwining and exploring similar themes of rurality, mourning, and island culture. Both Thorne and Rumbolt use coastal imagery and traditional methods within their practice, while also being informed by their own personal experiences. Painting, ceramics, and the incorporation of found beach treasures are central to their recent collaborative practice.
