Ballast Collective

Our project aims to expand the relationships between music, movement and audience by integrating conventional forms with midi-sensor technology.

The Ballast Collective is a multidisciplinary musical trio: Nick Coultas-Clarke on drums, Ian Foster on piano/synth, and Andrya Duff as dancer/musical manipulation. Blending conventional instruments with cutting-edge midi sensor technology allows each member to create and manipulate sound in real-time. The result is an engaging interactive performance that explores process and practice in a brand new way.

Within their first year, Ballast Collective has presented this distinctive and versatile collaboration at Mayflies Performance Series (Commissariat House Gardens, August 2023), West Fest (Rotary Arts Centre, September 2023), CB Nuit (First United Church, September 2023), Contact East (Nurse Myra Bennett Theatre, September 2023) and Night Music (The Ship Inn, April 2024).
