Public Pianos
#ComePlayWithMeNL
Public art you can play!
Permission to Play
Business and Arts NL is thrilled to announce the launch of the #PermissionToPlay campaign as part of our public piano program. This initiative invites everyone, from seasoned musicians to curious beginners, to take a moment and share their musical talent with the community. Our beautifully painted pianos, placed in various public spaces, are here for you to explore, create, and enjoy. Whether you're playing a classic melody or improvising a new tune, your music can brighten someone's day and bring our community closer together. Join us in celebrating the joy of spontaneous music-making and granting yourself the #PermissionToPlay.
Public Piano FAQs
Engaging with public pianos can be a delightful experience for both the player and the listeners. Here are three etiquette rules to keep in mind:
Respect Others: Be mindful of your surroundings and the volume of your playing. If people are nearby having conversations or if the location is generally quiet, play softly or choose quieter pieces. Additionally, be considerate of other potential players; don't monopolize the piano for extended periods.
Play Appropriate Music: Choose pieces that are suitable for public spaces. Avoid playing overly complex or loud compositions that might disturb others.
Leave the Piano as You Found It: Ensure the piano area is clean and tidy when you leave. If you notice any trash or debris around the piano, take a moment to clean it up. Additionally, be gentle with the instrument to avoid causing any damage.
Program Overview
Public art invigorates public spaces and helps build thriving cultural and economic partnerships. When art is available to everyone to enjoy and create, everyone has the opportunity to contribute to community identity and see themselves reflected.
Business & Arts NL’s Public Piano Program is an invitation to participate in collective community expression and create more meaningful public spaces. Our pianos are beautifully painted by local visual artists. Their upkeep and longevity is supported by our generous sponsors. And everyone who plays them contributes to their legacy.
Since its inception in 2014, #ComePlayWithMeNL has boasted hundreds of planned and impromptu performances. Currently, we are proud to partner with arts organizations, professional artists and arts educators to animate our public pianos.
We invite you to play and enjoy these instruments and share your special musical moments on social media. #ComePlayWithMeNL
