Dimension 4

Community

The fourth dimension in the framework is Community. Based on the priorities we heard from the arts organization representatives involved in our research, the dimension of community is important to groups across all sub-sectors of the industry. This dimension is the most diverse and broad-ranging. It is directly linked to artistic and cultural impact, as well as impact on community health and well-being, and truth and reconciliation.

Indicators within this dimension include but are not limited to:

Volunteerism

  • Number of volunteer hours (subdivided by volunteer, committee/program/event, day/month/year etc.)

Belonging, Inclusion and Social Cohesion

  • Feedback and testimony from stakeholders

  • Diversity of stakeholders engaged in an activity 

  • Perceived impact on quality of life as a result of engaging with the organization (based on the perspective of the individual or group doing the engaging)

Partnerships and Stakeholders

  • Number of strategic partnerships formed in a given time period (suggested: 1 calendar year)

    • The purpose for (the story behind) forming those partnerships

    • Values alignment with stakeholders or partners

  • Stakeholder categories

    • Number of people/groups in each stakeholder category

    • Satisfaction

    • Feedback on experience

    • Reason for engagement

  • Knowledge sharing within the community

Education

  • Teaching and learning initiatives

Truth and reconciliation

  • Number of the calls to action incorporated into organizational activities

    • Which calls to action

    • How are they being actioned

Environmental 

  • Paperless initiatives

  • Waste management strategies

  • Conservation practices

  • Environmental awareness-building initiatives

  • Use of the Creative Green Tools for measuring carbon capture, energy use, water consumption, waste generation, recycling etc.

Cultural Engagement

  • Interactions between individuals or groups from different backgrounds/perspectives

  • Emotional connections developed/established (qualitative stories collected - testimonials etc.)

  • Community feedback

  • Number of individuals engaged in a particular initiative/event/activity

  • The reasons behind the engagement of individuals or groups with the organization

  • Teaching and learning initiatives

Alignment to the Sustainable Development Goals

Advocacy

  • Number of letters written

  • Number of conversations had with government/industry bodies

  • Involvement in advocacy work (protests etc.)
